A ham steak is simply a thick cut of a smoked ham. Instead of buying a whole ham which is huge and serves a large number of people, a ham steak is an individual slice of the larger ham. A ham steak is meant to serve one to four people depending on its size and is more economical than buying a whole ham.

You can usually find ham steaks at your local grocery store (ask at the meat counter) or your local meat market. If you are getting a whole or half hog butchered, consider getting your ham cut into steaks.This will fill your freezer with many individual ham steaks instead of one large ham.This is great for dinners throughout the year.

  2. Add ham steak and cook on both sides until warmed through.
  3. Remove ham steak and cover with foil to keep warm.
  4. Lower heat and add flour to butter and cook for a minute.
  5. Add remaining ingredients and stir for 2-3 minutes. Add ham steak back to skillet and warm through.

  • 1 fully-cooked ham steak approximately 1 pound
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 4 Tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce

Instructions

  • In a large frying pan, heat butter over medium heat until hot.

  • Add ham steak, and heat for 4 to 5 minutes on the first side; flip and heat for 2 to 3 minutes on second side.
